The z locus : gazzi, recessive white, and pencil

Post by gvincke »

Hi,
In the page on the z locus in the wiki (https://www.pigeongenetics.com/wiki/ind ... he_z_locus) it is written : "The z locus is the position of a gene on a chromosome with three known alleles: gazzi, recessive white and wild type. It is possible that other pied expressions and perhaps pencil are also alleles at this locus."
I think the later hypothesis concerning pencil is wrong, as soon as i have Moravian Strassers which are both Gazzi and Pencil, which should be impossible is they where on the same locus, as they are both recessive.

The possibility for these genes to be allelic comes from an old study https://mangile-pigeons.sperry-galligar ... ciled.html and this observation was made only from 3 crossings.
The picture upper should proove that this hypothesis can not be confirmed.
